The story of Dwynwen

Dwynwen was the most beautiful among King Brychan Brycheiniog’s 24 daughters. She fell in love with a boy, Maelon Dafodrill, but her father arranged for her to marry another prince.

Maelon was upset. Dwynwen ran to the woods and prayed for help.   An angel arrived with a potion to make her forget Maelon. It also turned him into a block of ice, not sure why!

Dwynwen was also given 3 wishes. She wished for Maelon to thaw out. Second, she wished for God to help anyone looking for love. Finally she wished to never marry, odd that she didn’t marry Maelon. To show her gratitude, Dwynwen became a nun. She set up a convent located at Llanddwyn Island.
