What do you get when you need a little gift for a dog lover? Vicky from Little Bit Different candles takes you through the choice of candle gifts for dog lovers.

About Little Bit Different
Little Bit Different is a fifteen year old Welsh candle brand. It was founded by Vicky in 2010 when on maternity leave following the birth of her youngest child Rowan.
The next generation creates gifts for dog lovers
Fifteen years later Rowan created his first range of candles. Taking inspiration from the family Yorkshire Terrier Pixie, AKA The Tiniest of Tiny Dogs, Tiny Dog candles became a reality in 2025.

Rowan had said for a few years that Pixie needed her own candle because she was so popular on social media. He didn’t manage to persuade his parents straightaway. SO, he approached it in the same way he had set about trying to get a pet dog! Subtle comments, little suggestions, promises of lots of help, the usual tactics.
Eventually in 2015 he won Vicky over. Unfortunately for Rowan this wasn’t Vicky’s first rodeo. She was used to teenagers and knew just how to use this as a learning tool. Rowan thought he had persuaded her to do something. It was agreed that Pixie and Rowan could create a range (yes, not just one candle by this point) of candles for dog lovers. There was a condition though. Rowan had to research the top dog breeds in the UK and narrow it down to ten. He then had to source artwork for the breeds that was able to be licenced. It didn’t end there. Rowan needed to get information about the personality traits for all the breeds. He also had to find our what fragrance oils were the safest for dogs. He did check this with Vicky too. Lavender and chamomile were chosen. The added bonus being that the candle would be calming.

The range of candles for dog lovers comes together
With all of this in place the last thing to do was to design the labels and name the range. As supportive and encouraging parents Vicky and Chris were insistent that Rowan improved this Adobe Illustrator skills to design the labels himself. After fifteen years surrounded by a family business he had picked up a lot and had lots of design opinions. It made sense to utilise them while encouraging his growth and confidence, such good parents. Nothing to do with being in the middle a house and business move.

Rowan cheerfully took on the challenge, even announcing that he would do a better job anyway! His parents plan worked. He created a fabulous range of candles. They didn’t get very involved at all. Rowan was proud, his parents were even prouder. Dog lovers all over the UK get exceptional quality candles with a cute yet sophisticated design. Pixie gets dog treats. Her food and treats are, however, still not tax deductable!

Disclaimer. We do not support child labour. Rowan chose to take on these tasks and was highly motivated. He was also rewarded for his efforts with Pepsi Max and garlic bread.
