Back in 2020 we were watching Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. It’s a comedy late night political show in America. Vicky and Chris felt a bit miserable about the prospect of a winter in lockdown and needed something to laugh along with. They did a really funny bit about the phenomenon that is Pumpkin Spice Latte (check it out below). It got us thinking, could we make a pumpkin spice latte candle? Even better, could we make it a Welsh Pumpkin Spice Latte candle too?
It was decided to give it a go, we had nothing to lose. We came up with a fragrance blend after a few tests and decided to use recycled amber jars to add to the cosy feel. Next came the label which we designed in house. We were just finding our feet when it came to using our design software but it worked. It smelt great and looked so warm and cosy, just what we had been aiming for.
It deserved better photography then we could create
We enlisted the help of Penarth based Michelle Huggleston as we wanted some great shots of the candles. The candle was launched in time for our 10th Birthday celebrations. We didn’t have any expectations, but as we were making the candles to order it wasn’t much of a risk. We couldn’t help but shout Pumpkin Spice Latte in the John Oliver style each time we made a sale! Cabin fever might have had a part in it!
Fast forward to 2024 and that original Pumpkin Spice Latte candle is one of our top winter sellers. It is only availble for a short time. PSL arrives on the website the day the schools start back in Septemeber and vanishes on the 1st of December. It can also be found on the shelves of many of our 70 plus stockists around Wales. It even featured in a BBC article recently.
